Every candidate negatives; it is no secret that Ron Paul has his. He has the obvious one; he is fighting an uphill battle running in the GOP as libertarian. In addition, he is on in his years and has the charisma of jagged broken glass. The GOP base loves his domestic policy but cannot stand his foreign policy. Nonetheless, after 20 some years of running for president, it looks like he may at least win the first two primaries. He is holding the steady lead in Iowa is and cleaning up in New Hampshire. This is for the other states primary goers who are still dead set against Paul.
About Those Newsletters
If there was one thing Paul had going for him, it was his reputation as being squeaky clean. There was no flip-flopping or Tiffany’s accounts in his past to muddy the waters. As his gains seemed to be legitimate, the GOP machine went digging for some dirt in an attempt to turn the tides onto one of their chosen candidates, and in doing so came across some awful newsletters baring Paul’s name.
Some have pointed out that Paul could have profited up to one million dollars on the newsletters. While I have not seen an evidence to lend evidence to this claim, even if it were true, I am not sure that should matter. After all, Paul is a self-described capitalist and anyone who is concerned with the GOP primary ought to be as well, so the concern of the profit is thrown out. Now, it is no secret that these were written by Lew Rockwell and Paul has addressed them in the past; this time however he got all senile and retorted that he had not written them. If had just taken responsibility, and brushed them off nonchalantly it would never have mattered. We all know the other candidates have far worse things in their mcmansion sized closets, and since republican politics is often about the lesser of two evils, I would have found a way to make it about the other guys and their problems.
That Icky Foreign Policy
I like pieces of Ron Paul’s foreign policy. I like the idea of ending foreign aid and getting rid of our bases on other countries and bringing our troops home from all the entanglements were are currently engaged in. I for one like what Obama did to kill UBL. To heck with international law, to heck with Pakistan, we found our man and we clipped him. That’s America and Pakistan should know that if the hold a guy we want dead then were will trespass wherever the heck we dang well please to send him to the virgins.
Ron Paul is nothing if not a man of principle. So his crazy notions of isolationism would not go far in congress, that whole thing about checks and balances is starting to make sense, isn’t it? Yes, we are surely guaranteed some gridlock, but that is better than the extremes both sides offer. If we must go to war, it will be done the constitutional way and that seems to a notion that most humans like.
Like I said, every candidate has their drawbacks. Most of Ron Paul’s policy drawbacks would get checked by another branch of government making them a non-issue. As to those newsletters that Lew Rockwell wrote – well at least he didn’t create the system that underpins obamacare, flip-flop on social issues when it suited his political advancement. Nor did he vote to create ANWR, the Federal Department of Education, or sit on a couch with Nancy Pelosi and talk about how concerned he is about global warming. Sure, Dick Morris and Karl Rove call him a liberal, but that is simply because they realize that a Paul presidency would put an end to the shenanigans they engage in that make themselves rich at the expense of the taxpayer. Not to mention the fact that most of Paul’s stances are common sense and they cannot combat them with their arsenal of weapons, so they just call him liberal. Its the conservative equivalent of calling someone racist. After all, do we want a guy like Karl Rove dictating who we are allowed to have as our candidate? Is that not why we have the primary process? As for Dick Morris, I am not sure the lisper cares what happens so long as he can plug his new book, whatever it happens to be called.
Vote Paul or America dies, it is just that simple.
With much of the talk surrounding the debt ceiling, I had little to say. Even when the deal was reached, I remained silent. I mean, how could I do anything else? No one knew what was in the bill. The Dow has now dipped roughly 500 points, negating any gains it has made this year. A credit down grade is also looming. Let’s play a quick round of blame-storming.
The Credit Down Grade
Prior to the secret debt ceiling agreement, we were warned by many liberal pundits and so-called economists that without an increase in the debt ceiling, that our nations credit rating would surely be down-graded thereby hindering the already in progress stellar recovery.
It would shame us around the globe and make it harder for the government to make its payments. I do not understand the rationale of using new debt to pay off old debts and calling it sound fiscal doctrine, but hey it is DC.
It is equally DC-eque that as our nations looming credit down grade was the fact, the very same folks who used decided that it was NBD (no big deal) now that Obama had won on the debt ceiling.
Credit agencies are still suggesting that America may face a credit downgrade. Progressives are handing us a messaging-win on a platter yet we keep walking away as though we love failure.
Who We Shall Blame
I think it is clear who I will be blaming. First, I blame every republican, not just the ones who voted for it. The sheer lack of consistent and clear messaging was a problem. I also take issue with the egos and personalities that we placed ahead of the actual deal. It seemed like every leading GOP character was dropping a debt deal with their name on it and forcing a vote. Now, it sure was hilarious watching democrats continually voting against balanced budget deals. I mean, who does not like balanced budgets? It is like saying that you hate cute puppies or the elderly.
The republicans really should stop being in office. They had just about secured Obama as a one term president, yet sank the entire ship for some raw deal. They also broke a promise by not posting the bill 3 days prior to voting for it. It seems like some establishment types really want a primary challenger. The republicans lost an enormous opportunity to make Obama the first black president and the one of the few to let the US default, if it would come to that. Not to mention the major messaging battle we lost.
Obviously majority of the blame is heaved right onto the democrat leadership as well as the big O man himself.
Default? LOL, JK
We all know that default was never on the table. We bring in $180B in tax revenue a month. If the federal government cannot find a way to survive on that amount of cash, it proves that perhaps anarchy is the way.
We spend $300B every month. Does it really take a genius or even an economist to figure that we can cut foreign aid and salaries to congress and still make good on our word for months to come? Yes, I said cuts to congressional salaries, perhaps even the presidential salary. Shared sacrifice only works if the one calling for it shares in the sacrifice, otherwise he is just a hypocrite.
Of course, Obama would force default and then win the messaging battle and republicans would stand behind speak Carrot with the heads held low whining about something without actually pointing out the democrats have more control and refused any deal. It not really compromise if only one party is expected to change its requests.
What Now
Obviously the deal was bunk. It only slows growth rate of the Voldemort’s dark army federal government, rather than give us actual cuts in government. If anything, it ought to be a lesson to American progressives that their big-government, liberty-sucking ideology is not popular anywhere in the world.
We got an increase in the debt ceiling, not actual cuts in spending, and a massacred the messaging. I think it is time to create a third party and dump the republicans.
Do not let the progressives steal the holiday’s purpose, say Happy Independence Day. Thanks a service member.
You know what makes America great?
Only in America are the poor morbidly obese.
State Rep John Kriesel and S.E. Cupp are holding an event in Minneapolis regarding the proposed ballot amendment in the Socialist Democracy of Minnesota this coming Friday prior to RightOnline 2011. When I looked at some of the recent comments on the Facebook page for the event I noticed an individual who resorted to calling those attending progressive liberals, because I guess it is now progressive and liberal to allow free people to choose freely.
Nonetheless, my thoughts on the issue:
First off, I must make it clear that I am not a proponent of any measure legalizing gay marriage. I am strongly opposed to it; in fact I myself am opposed to straight marriage. I think it is fair to note that the only thing that is being proposed at this time is a ballot measure, allowing those in this state to choose. The existing measure is not legalizing anything nor is it solidifying any sort of definition of marriage, it is merely putting the option on the 2012 ballot. It seems like a fair approach to such a hot button issue, letting the people decide what laws they are governed by, but then again life is not fair, right?
–
In nations throughout Europe and in some parts of Canada, Christian ministers and churches have come under fire for espousing on their values when it comes to the topic of sexuality. They are charged and sometimes convicted with crimes of hate speech.
–
In my view, laws legalizing gay marriage would necessarily put gays into a protected class of minorities. The only way I see for churches to combat the possibility of the state or a governing body censoring their views is to fully deregulate marriage. It would limit the possibility that a person’s behavior would shift them into a protected class and allow them undue privileges. The deregulation of marriage would address all sorts of other lifestyle arrangements consisting of polygamous, polyamorus and polyandrous relationships, allowing all of them to engage in the private contract we currently call marriage. The church and those opposed to whatever nastiness (insert your LOL here) people come up with the ability to carry on as they were.
This concept has time and again been brought to the table as the libertarian, or truly conservative perspective. That said, I think it is just as libertarian to allow the citizens of a state to choose what laws govern our society.
With a stable of lukewarm McCainish Republicans galloping towards 2012, there have been plenty of reminders of what Ross Perot meant when he ran – a split for the Republican establishment. Now at this point I have not advocated for any candidate but I think it is clear that I favor the likes of Ron Paul and Gary Johnson maybe even Herman Cain. The question remains, would any of them, Palin or even Trump run as a third party if they failed to garner the GOP nomination.
I am a libertarian with a small ‘l’ and a Republican with a capital ‘R.’ What I mean by that is that I vote Republican but I identify strongly with libertarian values just not the idea of a third party. I believe that the national GOP ought to be libertarian, because right now they are nothing more than democrats and I hate them for it.
The major argument against conservative third party candidates is that they eat votes for the GOP nominee just like Ross Perot did. According to those who ascribe to this idea, a third party would put the nail in the coffin of republicans. I mean, they are not perfect conservatives but at least the better than the other guy, right? Wrong. We are repeating history, and worse than that, a history that is barely old enough to be called history.
We already know where this leads. We lost in 2008 but took major ground in 2010 by being the very opposite of the current 2012 stable. The Tea Party Freshman class of congressmen are outspoken conservatives. That is why we swept the mid-terms the way we did. We have every possibility of hitting the trifecta in 2012, but we will not. I mentioned in one of my podcasts who I predicted for the 2012 ticket: Romney-Pawlenty. These are two guys I do not hate, and in 2008 I was behind Romney over McCain.
If we are going to lose, I would prefer it be by the hand of a third party. The world is on fire, America has very little left in the way of true Americans and we are drowned in a pool of our own debt. I happen to believe that America may in its final days of its first run of glory. I say first run because I think we shall – unlike any great society before us – rise from our ashes and lead the globe once again. The actions of our sitting president and plenty of presidents from the past have weakened us. People who hate the idea of a third party splitting the vote use our vulnerable position in the globe as a reason to vote republican regardless of the conservative nature of the candidate.
This is a hill people like myself must be willing to die on. I am prepared to pick up the pieces of our nation and rebuild it brick-by-brick if we lose in 2012. Why? Because you have to touch the stove to know it burns. It is time to liquidate the GOP of the fakes and nonbelievers and if we have to watch our nation burn as a result, then so be it. My generation is not very conservative because of they have not seen proper examples. This will force us to be the next great generation. It will be an experience we will not soon forget. Unlike the last great generation, we will record it, tweet it and blog about it. It will not soon forget, we will tell our children and grandchildren about what we did to put America back together. It will teach my generation the sacrifice it needs to learn.
This is the free market approach. Fellow conservatives, libertarians, and tea party participators should be on the same page with me.
We should sear this lesson in the mind of the coming generation – be a real conservative or see yourself out.
